Lil Wayne: Funeral - Album Review

Hip Hop Music Review Trap

Known for his historic run in the early 2000s, Lil Wayne is back in action with his much anticipated album "Funeral". While this album to some, may have been overdue, he falls in between perfect timing and perfect music for the time. While the world grows with anticipation to projects coming from Kendrick Lamar, Drake and J. Cole; Lil Wayne comes with a vast array of "silent hits"

In the wake of hip hop and its evolution, Wayne delivers. He brings some of those infamous instrumental runs often felt and heard early in Tha Carter series; he also complements those sounds with the new age dirty 808 sounds. Starting from his first track, "Funeral" Wayne comes with his charismatic punchline flow and does not seem to let up.

In the Wake of Kobe Bryant's passing, Wayne included 24 seconds of silence on the 8th track of his album to commemorate the passing of a legend. Kobe was respected both on and off the court. While many media outlets attempt to cloud Kobe's legacy with old dismissed cases and tarnish his name after his passing, many people still hold Kobe dear to him. This was an excellent way to let Kobe be remembered. But back to the album!

Wheezy's lyrics are often complemented with the dynamics of the beats ranging back from his Da Drought series. However, this album seems to come with great organization. It seems as just when Weezy was counted out, we all see why he is considered a legend. Songs such as "Mahogany" and "Mama Mia" let you know there are moods and limitations that cannot be touched by these new artists. His production complements his often crafty flow by allowing him to stretch his beats in and out of the hip hop medium. 2020 is definitely off to a good start with this album following Eminem's Music to be Murdered By. Wayne definitely reaches into his bag and pulls out at least a 8 out of 10 rated album.
